This is the voice of a former Eisenhower Republican who presently is witnessing the destruction of the middle class because of today's Republican politics and policies. Today, ideology trumps reality and practicality. The time has come for humans to take back the castles from the corporations. Comments are welcome, by the way.

Government & Jobs
The republican candidates for president continue to claim government cannot create jobs. In their world, apparently people who work for government do not have jobs. Mitt said he was unemployed yet it appears he is spending a lot of time and money seeking the job of President of The United States. Ask anyone who has had the job or has worked in the White House and they will definitely tell you that those are jobs. Just in Nashville 22,367 people are employed by either Metropolitan Nashville government and the Metro School System. Add to that those employed by the federal government, the State of Tennessee who also work in Nashville, and by the government owned post secondary colleges and universities and the total would be a sizable percentage of Nashville jobs are actually government jobs. But wait, there’s even more. The interstate highways in the Nashville area are all built and maintained by employees in the private sector who are hired by government. Construction at the airport and other government facilities and buildings may be performed by employees in the public sector but those jobs are contracted by government. The real issue should be the competence and the intelligence of anyone claiming that the government cannot create jobs. It should be obvious that they lack sufficient understanding of how government works or how jobs are created to serve in any public capacity. Whether seeking the job of President, member of Congress, state, or local legislature, the candidates need to demonstrate some small degree of knowledge and skill to do the job they seek. Claiming that the government cannot create jobs should only prove they lack that skill. That comment alone should disqualify them from any elected office.
