To Republican Candidates:

Today’s problems are yesterday’s politics. High unemployment and massive deficits are, in part, the results of unfunded wars, tax cuts, and bad economic theory. So, what do you propose besides repealing Obamacare? For that matter, what is your alternative to Obamacare? Do you have an alternative or is it everyone for themselves? How do your feel about the various subsidies and corporate entitlements? Should we continue to give the oil industry various subsidies? Then, there’s the question of agricultural subsidies...what should be done about those taxpayer expenditures. Now, let’s look at some of your social issues. You oppose abortion but what happens after an unwanted child is born? Should you provide any assistance to the mother to help feed and shelter this child? Today, over 5 million children are without healthcare and the number will more than double when you repeal Obamacare so what do you propose for them? Children have to eat and children need shelter but over 1 million children go hungry and close to 500,000 children are homeless. What’s you solution to this problem. Thanks to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, the years beginning in 2005 are the first in the country’s history when seniors do not make up a majority of Americans living in poverty. The Ryan plan would place financial burdens on seniors as far as the costs of healthcare insurance. Privatizing Social Security would probably adversely affect future seniors so how do you deal with those eventualities? You have made it apparent that you hope Obama does not win re-election. What you have failed to do is be specific when it comes to what you would do in his stead. Who will you elect to replace Obama and what policies and programs will you support if Obama is replaced. Finally, how do you propose to pay the costs of government? We have seen how many states like Tennessee get as much as 40% of the state budget from federal taxes. Whether it is block grants or specifically funded federal programs, there are billions of dollars that will need replacing if you overturn or repeal all of the Obama-signed legislation. How do you propose to raise those revenues? You have been very vocal about the things you don’t like and would like to change or repeal but what will you keep? What will government under your watch look like? What will you do and how will you pay the costs of doing what you want to do? You are not happy with the present, so what is your alternatives? If we listen to conservatives on the campaign trail, all government policies cause more problems than they cure. What problems will be caused by your politics?
