This is the voice of a former Eisenhower Republican who presently is witnessing the destruction of the middle class because of today's Republican politics and policies. Today, ideology trumps reality and practicality. The time has come for humans to take back the castles from the corporations. Comments are welcome, by the way.

More Knowledge???
It is a well known fact that contraceptives can prevent unwanted pregnancies. It is also indisputable that the prevention of unwanted pregnancies result in reduced abortions (to end unwanted pregnancies). Why then would Republicans in Congress hold hearings aimed at reducing or eliminating insurance coverage for contraceptives? While the Republicans attempted to spin the issue by calling it a hearing on religious freedom it was obvious that the subject was the requirement that contraceptives and women’s health was the focus. The irony is that it is the cornerstone of conservative republican politics to be opposed to abortion. The opposition to this procedure is so strong it has been re-labeled Pro-Life. Yet, in spite of this opposition to abortion, members of the conservative right in Congress have decided to hold hearings on the inclusion of the provision of providing contraceptives in healthcare insurance policies. The facts not-withstanding that this issue dates back to 1998 when the first state implemented this requirement and as of 2008, 27 additional states required this of employer provided healthcare insurance or that this very issue had already been contested in Federal Courts and deemed an employer/employee issue as opposed to a religious freedom issue, Congress soldiered on. Of course, seeing as how this involved women’s health, the hearing failed to include any testimony from a single woman. So, to sum up, there are members of Congress who claim to be against abortions contesting a woman’s access to contraceptives that would actually prevent abortions. Does it take election to Congress for ignorance to trump common sense?
