Newt???

Newt for president? Really? Newt Gingrich, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives who resigned due to ethics violation, that Newt? There must be something really weird about Republican politics that has Newt Gingrich the leading candidate for the Republican Party nomination for President of the United States of America. In limbo, the expression is “how low can you go”. Perhaps that should also apply to politics in the U.S. today. Really, Newt? I am sure that if one looked hard enough there could be others from the Republican party that would compete with Newt and Newt’s sleaze factor. No one has yet to mention Tom Delay nor Larry Craig either of whom could probably give Newt a run for his money when it comes to honoring the sleaziest politician of modern times. But really, Newt? The “historian” who isn’t a lobbyist but who has made a fortune “advising” various companies on the history of avoiding legislation these companies would like to avoid. He is also a historian that seems to have a problem with historical facts. He definitely has a problem with his past history where consistency with past political positions or political statements has seemed to be so elusive. Perhaps some of his quotes says it all, “I’m not a natural leader. I’m too intellectual; I’m too abstract; I think too much” or “The idea that a congressman would be tainted by accepting money from private industry or private sources is essentially a socialist argument” and then there was, “It doesn’t matter what I do. People need to hear what I have to say. There’s no one else who can say what I can say” and, the winner is, “So let me say on the record, any ad which quotes what I said on Sunday is a falsehood.” Admittedly, the country is in a bit of a mess and has been for some time now. Also one has to acknowledge that Newt was the Speaker when there was the first and last balanced budget. Neither of these situations are justification for anyone with the character or lack thereof and the past history of Newt to be considered for the office of President of the United States. Newt, like Sarah Palin, is using the campaign platform to play on the gullibility of many Americans as a way of adding to his personal wealth. Win, lose, or draw, you can be certain that there will be books and lecture tours forthcoming that are designed to add to his riches. Actually, if he really wants to escalate his opportunity for wealth he should announce that Rush will be his Vice-President and Glen his Secretary of State. Imagine what that would do to garner right wing voter. Newt and Rush 2012...Can’t you see the bumper stickers and yard signs! Perhaps there should be another test for Newt. After this was written, Newt's sister was interviewed on a talk show. She discussed her views of Newt and in doing so was clear in voicing her position that she would never vote for him as President. It has also been noted that one or more of his ex wives have also voiced the same point of view. Perhaps the test for presidential qualifications should be whether or not the candidate earns the votes of those who know him or her best. Need one say any more?
