Republicans need to learn how to lose. Elections have winners and losers and it is
obvious from the behavior of Republicans in the US Senate that they have not
learned to lose. Regardless of who wins
or loses elections, the country must continue to operate. Citizens need problems attended to and for
one house of the Congress to throw a temper tantrum and block all manner of
necessary legislation is not good for the citizens, the country or the losing
party. It is more than obvious that Mitch
McConnell would have preferred a Republican to be elected President in 2010,
but that did not happen. He was not
sent to Congress to prevent Obama from winning a second term in office. His
constituents (as well as the constituents of every other Republican Senator)
have needs that need to be addressed by something other than filibusters. If the legislation proposed by Democrats is
so bad, let them enact it and create their barriers to re-election. After all, that is exactly what has happened
with the legislation that created all of today’s economic equalities that
caused the Great Recession. It is past
time to fix our problems. These
problems will not be fixed by filibusters nor by Senators acting like 6
year-olds having a temper tantrum.
Republicans need to learn how to lose elections and still keep the country moving forward.
