Promises, Promises, Promises

Democratic Accomplishments/Republican Myths
  • Between 1993 and 2000, real wages increased by 6.5% but went down by 4.3% during the Reagan-Bush 41 years.
  • The country enjoyed the longest period of economic expansion in history
  • From 1993 – 2000 economic growth averaged 4%
  • Since 1960 wages and family income in every tax bracket increased until 2000.
  • The poverty rate was at a twenty-year low
  • Unemployment dropped to 4%
  • The Clinton boom created 22 million jobs and lifted 4.1 children out of poverty.
Has Romney/Ryan proposed anything that has economic possibilities like those above?   If so, just what are those policies?  And, further, what historical data is available to demonstrate those policies will actually work?  The Romney/Ryan administration will be a repeat of the Bush administration that resulted in the economic morass we now find ourselves trying to exit.  There is no way taxes can be reduced by 20% across the board, capital gains, dividends, and inheritances excluded from taxes without significantly increasing the deficit.  Becoming energy independent will not create nearly enough jobs to replace revenue lost by tax rate reductions.  Finally, it is doubtful if anyone ever attended a meeting where a CEO called for a need to increase employment because he or she received a personal income tax cut or the business received a reduction of corporate tax rates.  This myth has existed since Reagan began campaigning for President and never has a shred of evidence been produced to substantiate that assertion.   The Romney/Ryan 5 Point Plan has byt a single point which is to allow millionaires and billionaires to keep more of their money, continue to ask those who receive income from wages to carry the burden of financing government, increase the deficit, and continue the screwing of America's middle class.  A rising tide may lift all boats, but the rising tide of republican tax policies has lifted yachts only while swamping all of the bass boats, kayaks,  and canoes.
