Contrary to what all of the talking heads are saying, if Adam Lanza had not been able to get his hands on guns, there would not have been a Newtown, CT shooting. Pundits have blamed everything from lack of school prayer to violence in video games as the reasons for events like the recent mass shootings but there is one simple fact. If there was no access to guns there would be no shootings. Add to that a restriction on access to ammunition and, at best, a gunman without bullets would have to throw his impossible to access gun at his victims with far less loss of life. Easy access to guns and bullets is the single common denominator that is present in every mass shooting. Perhaps this is an over simplification, but it is an undeniable fact that without a gun and the bullets that the gun fires there can be no mass killings. The President said that this was a complicated issue. What is complicated about eliminating the cause of mass shootings. Eliminate guns and ammunition and you put an immediate end to these atrocities. With no guns to shoot bullets and no bullets to shoot from a gun there will be no more mass shootings, guaranteed. Of course, the NRA and gun manufacturers will proclaim (along with Congressman Gomert) if the “innocents” had guns to defend themselves they would have shot Adam Lanza before he could have killed so many children and teachers. Wayne LaPierre of the NRA offered his solution to the problem which was having an armed police officer in every school. (Wayne neglected to point out that the NRA has been opposed to raising taxes for teachers in schools, let alone for police officers and did not offer any suggestion as to covering the costs of armed police officers in every school) Wayne also failed to note that there were armed security offivers in the school in Columbine and those "good guys" with guns did not prevent the "bad guys" with guns from the mass shootings in Colorado, did they, Wayne. Of course if this were the case, in the days of the Old West when everyone in Dodge City carried a sidearm, Boot Hill would have no occupants. Anyone with any common sense knows the answer lies not in more guns but in no guns. There can be no argument to the fact that without guns there can be no shootings. Perhaps the solution would be for everyone to have to exchange all guns they presently own for a musket. Then the Second Amendment would be followed to the letter and the most damage one could do would be a single shot.
