More Airport Screening???

Just how effective is the airport screening.  While it is questionable the extent to which it may prevent terrorist attacks, there is no question that it is extremely effective when it comes to enriching “friends of the administration”.  The following is excerpt from the Dylan Ratigan book, Greedy Bastards and directly relates to the issues in question. Michael Chertoff was the former Homeland Security secretary.  “After he left government service, he was lucky enough to set up his own consulting firm, the Chertoff Group, while at the same time appearing as a security expert in the media. One of his clients was a company called Rapiscan, which makes the full body scanners used by the Transportation Security Administration when checking people in at airports.  Chertoff used his position as a former security official to convince the American people that full-body airport scanners were effective.” “He got his political allies to continue putting up taxpayer money for devices he was pushing as a “security” matter. It isn’t obvious that Rapiscan devices do anything except enrich special interests. The GAO did a study in 2010 on these scanners, and reported that “it remains unclear whether” they would have detected any weapons used in the Christmas bombing scheme. The US Airline Pilots Association told its members not to submit to screenings used by these devices”  (Excerpted from Greedy Bastards by Dylan Ratigan) It seems illogical that if we can require everyone to remove their shoes before boarding a commercial aircraft that similar preventative measures are not taken when it comes to purchasing and owning firearms.
