Sign and Drive?

One cannot turn on television without seeing commercials for automobile “sign and drive” programs.  These commercials entice the buyer buy offering to sell a car with nothing down and no payments for the first month.  Just sign and drive goes the pitch.  Congressional Republicans must have been to close to the flat screens or cathode ray tubes as this is exactly how they managed the country’s economy for the years when George Bush (43) was President.  They just signed and drove for the Bush tax cuts, the war in Iraq, the war in Afghanistan, and Medicare D.  They forgot one detail, however.  While auto companies may allow the first month to go by without a payment, the auto companies do expect payments to be made eventually.  The same thing is true for the Republican sign and drive legislation.  Payments are now due and, as in 2011, the Republicans do not want to make the payments.  They spent the money for the tax cuts, wars, and Medicare D but fiscally speaking now they’ve found  religion and say the debt is too high so they will not pay unless future spending is cut.  Of course, being Republicans, they do not want to cut spending on their pet projects do they turn to what they term as "entitlements", those programs Republicans would like to do away with, as the place where cuts need be made.  Their other way to sign and drive is to threaten to hold up payments on the debt and threaten to fail to raise the debt ceiling, paying for expenditures they already voted into law in order to get their way.  When this happens with a car, the car can be repossessed and the buyer sued for recovery of the debt.  It is time to repossess the offices of Republicans who will not own up to their debt and will try to force the country to renege on making the payments that are past due.
