This is the voice of a former Eisenhower Republican who presently is witnessing the destruction of the middle class because of today's Republican politics and policies. Today, ideology trumps reality and practicality. The time has come for humans to take back the castles from the corporations. Comments are welcome, by the way.

Marsha Speaks!
Marsha Blackburn is again displaying her economic ignorance. (Nashville, Tennessean, 3/15/2013). Her idea of recovery from a recession consisting of spending cuts shows she has no idea about what she speaks. One only has to look at the results of austerity on European economies to know that a recession is actually the result of reduced spending not reversed by more reductions in spending, but actually made worse by the decreased economic activity and increased unemployment that results from more spending cuts. Rather than cut the tax favors that go to a very few as a means of raising revenue she favors cutting benefits to the needy. Marsha, this may come as new news to you, but while spending has actually dropped from 26% of GDP to 25% of GDP the deficit is the result of revenue only being 17% of GDP. The time to cut spending was in 2002 - 2008 when your Republican President, George Bush committed to spend for two un-paid for wars, an un-paid for prescription drug program that prevents ...the government from negotiating drug prices from drug companies, and a tax cut that favored the top 10% of income earners. Failing to act then resulted in a recession that further compounded the problem by removing over 20 million taxpayers from the tax rolls and reduced revenue even more than the tax cuts. Marsha, this is not secret information. It is out there for anyone to see. Marsha and other spending hawks need to stop acting like an uninformed idiots and (1) raise revenue by eliminating all special tax favors for corporations and a few wealthy individuals; (2) Enact legislation that actually creates jobs by rebuilding America's infrastructure that is falling to pieces. (3) quit trying to ensure the failure of Obama's economic policies which, in spite of a lack of support from your party, have managed to bring a slow recovery from the recession caused by your party's trickle-down economic policies. One has to wonder which is more ironic, Marsha on the budget committee or Michelle on the intelligence committee...talk about rising to levels of incompetence!!!
