They Just Don’t Get It!!!

It must be the season to rerun all of the “Why We Lost” political talk shows.  For the past week all of the Republican losers in the 2012 elections have been on one or another political talk show reprising their losses and offering new reasons why Democrat candidates received more votes.   To a man (or woman for that matter) no one has discovered the real reason Republicans have received fewer votes than Democrats for national offices since the year 2000.  It should be obvious.  It is not because of Obamacare, welfare, or other so-called “gifts” given to voters.  The reason should be obvious.  Republican policies and the Republican political platform does not appeal to a majority of voters.  It is that simple.  The Republican political strategy was to try to scare people but that has not worked for the past six elections.  Tax cuts for the rich and protecting the tax deductions and benefits for the rich makes sense except there are not enough rich to win elections.  That points to what the problem is in a nutshell.  Republican policies only appeal to a minority not a majority.  When there is a large voter turnout, there will never be enough Republican voters to win an election.  The only way Republicans will win in the futue is if they find some way to keep a large number of people from going to the polls.  Unfortunately, the Republicans in state government are aware of this and have, in many cases, crafted local voter legislation making it harder for many to vote.  By reducing early voting and introducing photo ID laws, Republicans have tried to keep the elderly, minorities, immigrants, and the young away from the voting booth.  It is sad when voter suppression rather than policy will determine winners in future elections.  Hopefully, the courts will see through this ruse and put an end to the various voter suppression laws.  When that happens, it will again be up to Republican political leaders to realize that it was not the candidate, the campaign, or the weather but policies that appeal to a small number of people that result in losses.  Based upon recent talk show appearances of the losers, they just don’t get it, yet.
