John Cornyn made a speech in the Senate complaining only four members of Congress were involved in the yet-to-be-passed Covid-19 bill. What an ignorant asshole! Is he incapable of remembering the House passed additional relief measures back in April and those measures have been sitting on McConnell’s desk for close to 9 months with no action by the Senate? Cornyn is the number two in the Senate majority. Where was his concern regarding a need to negotiate over those nine months? Further, as the number two, where was he during the recent negotiations? Dies he not realize that if the Senate passed additional relief and sent it to the President in April or May Trump could have parlayed his signature into a reelection victory. If anyone other than Trump is to blame for losing to Joe Biden Republican Senate Majority leadership holds much of that blame. That, of course, assuming Trump was not too stupid for taking credit for giving out another $1200 to everyone. Had he done that he would have certainly been able to change the mind of 50,000 voters, the numbers by which he lost the Electoral College. Of course, Cornyn will never admit Republican lack of actions on measures already passed by the House could benefit Republican election results just as Republicans will never admit Trump’s fucked up management of the nations handling of the pandemic cost him his reelection. Republicans have lived in a fantasy world ever since Ronald Reagan came up with trickle down economics. There is no example where cutting taxes for the wealthy have resulted in any benefits for anyone other than the wealthy. Lower and middle class workers are suffering the economic consequences of the virus while the wealthy’s biggest problem is keeping count of the growth of their wealth. This is no different from what happened in the 2009 economic downturn where the middle and bottom suffered in their wallets while those at the top made out like bandits. Because of assholes like McConnell and Cornyn the wealthy will always see their wealth benefit from the nation’s tax and economic policy while everyone else will be fighting off food insecurity, eviction, and foreclosure.
