How Did You Do?

Economically speaking, how did you do in 2020?  For America’s billionaires it was a very prosperous year.  The 651 members of America’s billionaire club managed to take in a total of $1 trillion dollars in 2020...enough to send every one of the 330 million people sa check for $3,000.  And, this is not the billionaires’ total fortune but just how much they earned in a few months of living under the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 virus.  And, this does not include the amount of tax benefits they received from the Donald Trump tax legislation.  While many politicians talk about income inequality none are doing anything to mitigate this problem. So, the question asked by this post is, “How did you do, economically speaking, in the year 2020?”  Did yo get yor share of the $1 trillion dollars added to your wealth like the 851 billionaires? Or, are you like most, hoping for no unexpected expenditures because there’s no way you can handle a major non-budgeted expense in today’s economic world. In fact, Republicans in the Senate and House, to a person, are conveniently ignoring the problem while condemning a Covid-19 relief measure that would give everyone $1,200 dollars.  Of course, Trump has promised to veto the legislation that was revised to lower the relief to $600 because he now says it should be $2,000 but that amendment to the legislation awaiting his signature dies in the House thanks again to Republicans.  As we approach the inauguration of President Joe Biden, Republicans are already promising to block any legislation that might raise taxes on the wealthy or on corporations and the majority of Americans are stupid enough to continue to send Republicans to Congress, both the House and Senate, who are guaranteed to favor the interests of billionaires over the economic needs of the majority of Americans.  Sadly one must recognize that you cannot fix stupid!
