With all of the legislative brouhaha around relief for the economic hardship caused by the Covid-19 virus there is a need for members of Congress, Senators and Representatives, to have to each personally experience the economic hardship facing their constituents. The need is for legislation that would deprive members of Congress and their entire staff of salaries for the period of time businesses is forced to close or limit operating due to virus-caused government mandates. It is doubtful if a single member of Congress has experienced the economic insecurities experienced by the tens of millions who have lost their jobs. If these legislators and their staff had to stand in unemployment lines and hope for any other government economic aid there will be much less resistance on their part. As Senator Sanders pointed out, there was no worrying about a deficit when tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy sailed through Congress. Nor, as he pointed out, the deficit did not affect the military spending. If they were also dependent upon government relief in the same way as many of their constituents are dependent upon government relief there is no doubt how each and every member of Congress would vote. Keep in mind, Congressional members and their staff receives economic relief each and every month in the form of their paychecks. Suspend those paychecks like the paychecks of many they claim to represent and there would be an immediate change in their attitude.
PS: Happy Trumpless New Year!
