How Can You Trust Republicans?

How can anyone trust a Republican Representative or Senator to represent their best interests anymore?  There was a time when being a Republican stood for something.  Both Senators and Representatives believed in small government and fiscal responsibility.  For the most part Republican politics was based upon truth and fact. But those days are no more.  Republican politics are now based upon unfounded conspiracy theory and unfounded, unproven claims.  Some of this is not really new.  For years, in a way to satisfy their wealthy donors Republicans insisted upon the false idea that tax cuts would result in more government revenue.  Those supporting the inane theory supported their positions by citing studies by various Republican supported “think tanks” whose funding came from the very wealthy Republican campaign contributors who would profit the most from tax cuts.  And, to make matters even worse, the same Republican think tanks conveniently ignores economic fact...tax cuts resulted in reduced tax revenue not increased tax revenue as they claimed.  For years Republicans beat that drum and even with a record deficit, there are Republicans who push for even larger tax cuts.  Republicans are also known for the hypocrisy between what they say and how they vote.  A good example of this involves out-going Senator Lamar Alexander who, when asked if he would vote to allow more evidence in the Senate Trump impeachment trial opined no more evidence was needed, it is proven he did what he was accused of doing.  But, when it came to voting to impeach, Alexander, the Senator who already heard sufficient evidence voted to acquit.  Today, in spite of the complete lack of any evidence of voter fraud over 100 Senators and Legislators plan to question the 2020 election results.  While claiming the outcome of the election is based upon faulty data each of these idiots ignore the fact that they, themselves, were elected by ballots they question as legitimate.  Instead of questioning the accuracy of the claims made by Donald Trump, who started claiming fraud long before a single vote was cast and a man who had a reputation of totally ignoring fact and reality, they continue to stand by him and support his idiotic claims.  There have been too many examples of conflicts between what Republican legislators say and actually do to mention here but this is not something that just started with the election of Donald Trump.  This conflict between say and do is why I left the Republican party when Reagan was elected and managed to “reduce” the Jimmy Carter deficit from a record $50 billion dollars to $150 billion dollars.  We need to hold all of our legislators feet to the fire and put an end to governing based upon myth, conspiracy, and lies.  How can you trust these bastards, how can you?
