American Exceptional-ism

In a speech last night by Newt Gingrich, after being declared the winner of the South Carolina Presidential primary vote, the term American exceptional ism was used on a number of occasions by Newt. What he failed to mention, however, was the best example of American exceptional ism just might be the rise of Barack Obama to the Presidency of The United States. After all, here was a Black American, a minority, born to a white mother with an African, black father. Not only was Barack a product of a mixed marriage, but he was also a product of a broken marriage having been abandoned by his father at a very early age. He was raised by a single mother with help from her parents. While this, in itself is not exceptional, grand-parental involvement in child raising is found more often in poorer families than in wealthy families. Newt went on to bring up the Constitution, the favorite document of the right in their arguments for “their way or the highway” issues. Again, he neglected to mention that according to the Founding Fathers in the original, before amendment, Constitution, Barack Obama would not have been able to vote, own land, or be considered a “whole” person let alone become President of the United States. It is interesting how Newt, Mitt, Rick, and Ron like to use the Constitution to support the various fallacies in their arguments for their view of a “better America”. They not only take the words of the Founding Fathers completely out of context, but fail to take into consideration the intention of the Founding Fathers to have the Constitution be a living document subject to change as the situation and circumstances call for change. American exceptional-ism has a nice sound to the phrase but it does not apply to Newt, a 30 year political hack who has managed to enrich himself while violating the ethics of his job. American exceptional-ism would not describe how Mitt came from inherited wealth to use the processes of capitalism to destroy companies in order to enrich himself and a few others. We have the best example of American exceptional-ism presently serving as President of the United States and if the people have any wisdom at all, they will insist Barack Obama serve a second term as President of the United States.
