Socialism?

There is a lot of talk today about socialism. Newt seems to have based his entire campaign for the republican presidential nomination on his labeling President Obama a socialist. Let’s look at what makes one a socialist. The best example of socialism in American might be found in the NFL, The National Football League. Here is an organization where the teams pool their revenue and share it equally between each member of the group. They are governed by a single individual hired by the team owners. They enforce rules of both on field and off field behavior on the part of their union-member employees. (For the benefit of all of the anti-union capitalists out there, players and officials all belong to a labor union.) The NFL has been exempt from anti-trust legislation by acts of Congress allowing them to decide who may or may not own a team in the league and where those teams may be located. The Commissioner, along with the players union has determined how revenues would be distributed which is another example of socialistic policies. Finally, almost every team plays in a taxpayer funded facility with the revenues from that facility going to the owners of the respective teams. The next time someone labels a politician a socialist one should insist upon those throwing labels around point to the policies that are socialist. If one tells a lie often enough, that lie begins to be believed. Newt and others on the right need to be called out when they continue to lie.
