Guns Do Kill People!

In a recent reply to a letter to the editor favoring the right to bring guns to work, I wrote:” Bring guns to work...kill more citizens. This is the NRA's answer to the unemployment problem. Every innocent person killed by a gun will open up a job for someone presently unemployed. This will create over 30,000 jobs a year. Just think, in ten years over 300,000 jobs will be created. In addition, for all of those who are not killed but just wounded, the unemployed can act as a temp pool who can fill in while the wounded are healing. One person’s response to my reply was:” Reality is totally opposite of your utopian vision of a gun-free world. An armed society is a polite society.” One cannot help but wonder how the parents of the three school children shot and killed in Ohio yesterday felt about the “polite society” that ended up in the deaths of their children. Do you think the two sets of parents whose children were also shot but not killed felt this was “polite” action? Of course, the gun lobby would take the position if everyone in the school was armed, only one person would have died as the armed students could have fired back at the shooter, killing him before he could shoot someone else. I suppose this would be another example of what someone favoring gun ownership would call a “polite” action. If guns “don’t kill people” there are three sets of parents in Ohio wondering why they are planning funerals for their children.
