Gaff of the Day

Campaigning for political office is obviously difficult. On the other hand, once elected, performing competently in elected office is equally difficult if not considerably more so. For the past few months, we have been exposed to a series of presidential wannabes who seem to be incapable of going more than 49 hours without committing some sort of gaff. What does this say about their ability to competently perform the duties of President? There are many times in the life of a President when “oops” just will not cut the mustard. While one jokes about mistaking “Concords” while on the stump, authorizing cruise missiles to launched at a wrong town or country is not a presidential “oops”. The country is paying an extremely high price for the WMD misinformation and suspect that there are not too many Americans who want a repeat of a gaff of that nature. Thus far, we have seen candidates who were unable to get their names on some state ballots. Other candidates have failed to acquire delegates to their party’s convention. While slip ups of this nature may not be cause to worry in a campaign they have to signal an inability to competently campaign. Incompetent campaigns can only lead to incompetent governing. The country cannot afford more years of incompetents in the White House. Bush 43 did enough damage to the country when he decided to partially pull out of Afghanistan to focus on Iraq.
