Romney and Jobs

Consider this fact, when Governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney’s record of creating jobs was 47th worst in the country. Now that he is seeking the Republican Presidential nomination, he claims his experience in creating jobs qualifies him for this position. Perhaps, if he was running against George W. Bush for the office of President he may have an argument in as much as Bush 43 had the worst record of job creation of any President since World War II. However, considering the reality that the first three years of the Obama Administration, in spite of the economic disaster inherited from Bush 43, more jobs have been created than the entire 8 years of Bush. To date, Obama can brag about 3.7 million private sector jobs. Romney’s jobs “plan” consists of lower corporate tax rates and reducing regulations. Lest one forgets, this was the Bush jobs plan also. It did not work very well in the past and there is no evidence it will work any better in the future. Finally, Romney points to his career at Baine Capital but fails to point out that the vast majority of jobs created by Baine were offshore jobs resulting from buying troubled companies, stripping these companies of assets, firing employees, and moving the now-stripped business off shore. The “successes” about which Baine brags are “big-box” retail operations that are known for employing skeleton staff, paying minimum wages, and driving small locally owned competitors (who employed more people) out of business. Romney and jobs are two words that do not belong in the same paragraph , let alone the same sentence.
