Fear?

What are the Republicans afraid of? Why are Republicans in the Senate blocking virtually every single piece of legislation? Much of their opposition is to policy that was, before Obama, originated by and considered to reflect the Republican political point of view. Are Republicans afraid of political success? Do Republicans need economic turmoil in order to win power? Are the Republicans not able to take credit for their own ideas? It seems that the Republicans would be able to profit from such things as the mandates in the healthcare bill. After all, it was their idea that began with Nixon and continued through Republican Senator Grassley. Republicans also originated the idea of end of life planning until they renamed it puling the plug on grandma. Equal opportunity for all was another Nixon initiative until Republicans opposed both gay marriage and civil unions of same sex couples. Reagan, Nixon, and Bush 41 all saw the need to raise taxes but now, thanks to Grover Norquist, tax increases are forbidden even though tax revenue is at historic lows while deficits are at historic highs. It seems that if Republicans are so convinced that the Democratic economic policies are so wrong they would step aside and allow the Democrats to fail. Perhaps, the Republicans know that the conservative economic policies will only benefit a few and do not want to risk the possibility of success on the part of Democratic economic policies and have to deal with the effect of those successes in future elections.
