Once again, the
rhetoric from the Republicans will be all about “small” business. In a totally
political move, the Republicans in the House are going to vote to repeal the
Affordable Healthcare Act AGAIN. One of
the arguments they make for this political move is the claim that the
Affordable Healthcare Act will impact small businesses. Of course, this is also the claim they make
when trying to extend the Bush tax cuts for people with income in excess of
$250,000. It is unfortunate that none
of the talking heads on any of the television networks ever call on the
Republicans to back up their claims.
For example, just who do they claim to be “small business”? In their mind, Koch Industries, because some
of the companies owned by the Koch Brothers are “S” corporations, Republicans
like to call them small businesses. In
reality, Koch Industries is not at all representative of small business. Very few “small businesses” have a net
profit over $250,000 and furthermore most of those that do are legal, medical,
accounting, and other professional corporations or partnerships. It is time to recognize that there is no
relationship between tax rates and job creation. In fact, more often than not, the so-called “job creators”, CEOs
and other executives and business owners are more focused on eliminating jobs
as well as reducing any other possible expenses in order to increase
profits. It would be a complete
surprise if anyone could cite a single instance where jobs increased because of
tax rate reduction. This is Republican
bullshit and unfortunately gullible Americans have bought into this fantasy.
