Mitt Romney is running around the country saying that
the policies of President Obama are not working. He claims that these “failed policies” are causing the recession
to continue. Perhaps one should ask
just what policies are he referring? At
last look, virtually every legislation proposed by President Obama has been
blocked by republican filibusters in the Senate. The American Jobs Act which would have added an estimated one
million jobs never came to a vote. The
Dream Act, sponsored by both Democrats and Republicans, was filibustered by the
very Republican Senators who originally sponsored the legislation. The country is still living under the tax
policies inherited by President Obama and originated by George Bush. If Romney is referring to the failure of the
Bush tax cuts to reverse the recession, why is he proposing even deeper tax
cuts? Just what has Romney proposed
that will restore the economy? His 59
point plan is nothing more than Bush 43 revisited...lower taxes and fewer regulations. He is apparently unaware that these were the
very things that resulted in today’s recession and the nation’s deficit. It is easy to be a critic when one takes
both sides of an argument as has Romney over his political career. It is more important, however, to note that
the country is not governed by criticism but by policy and by legislation. Where are the policies and legislation from
Republicans that will restore the economy?
There is nothing in the speeches of Romney that would lead one to believe
that a Romney Presidency will restore the middle class, create jobs, and
reverse the economic downturn that has been the hallmark of supply side
economic theory and the result of record economic inequality.
