House Speaker John
Boehner is warning Republican colleagues not to celebrate if they win the
Supreme Court battle over President Obama's health care law. "If the Court
strikes down all or part of the president's health care law, there will be no
spiking of the ball," Boehner wrote in a memo today to House
Republicans. Well, the Supreme Court
did not strike down the health care law and the Republicans not only did not
strike a ball, but did not even have a ball to strike. Unprepared for this eventuality, their only
focus seems to be trying to make a big deal out of the penalty for not
purchasing health care insurance by individuals an uncollectable tax rather
than an uncollectable penalty. Interestingly
enough the Republicans seem to overlook the uncollectable part regardless of
whether it is deemed a penalty or a tax.
Republicans also seem to ignore that regardless of what it may be
called, it does not apply to anyone who has health care insurance or any low
income individuals who cannot afford to purchase health care insurance. In their typical manner of lies and
distortions, the Republicans are adamant that this will be a tax on
everyone. While there are many
Americans who will believe these lies, particularly those whose sole source of
news is Fox, the truth is the legislation specifically prohibits any government
action to be taken to collect the penalty or tax, regardless of what it is
called. Members of Congress like
McConnell, Boehner, Cantor, or even Rubio should know better than to continue
to lie to their constituents. Their
constituents should know better than to allow them to continue their
fabrications. And, Boehner should know
not to count his chickens...
