Shitstorm (re-run)

Now that President Obama has actually voiced an opinion favoring gay marriage we can expect a shit storm to emanate from the right. The conservative position that would have gays and lesbians relegated to a second class citizenship has been in need of change for quite some time. History has shown that taking away freedoms and rights from any single group removes freedoms and rights from all of us. There is no evidence that a same sex relationship has any negative effect on other members of society that justify treatment that differs from a hetero-sexual relationship. The only justification can be found in religious writings. That, in itself, should be sufficient evidence to overturn any opposition. The United States of America is not a theocracy and should never bow to those whose policies and views are guided by their religious beliefs. No one is suggesting any policy or law that forces individuals into same sex marriages. No one has suggested policy or law that forces one to attend a same sex wedding ceremony. Finally, where is it written that those in opposition to same sex marriage are forced to buy the happy couple a wedding present?
