The Republican
propaganda machine continually tried to turn the 2012 Election into a
referendum on President Obama. In their
words, anyone regardless of ability or competency would be better than another
four years of Obama. While there is no doubt
that Rush, Glen, and their respective followers believe this line, only by
distorting the actual facts can they make their case. Under Obama, taxes for individuals and businesses have actually
been lowered. Under Obama, the growth
of government spending is the lowest of the past 5 presidential
administrations. While the recovery
from the Republican administration created recession has not been as rapid as
desirable, over 4.5 million new jobs, almost twice the number created during
the entire eight years of Bush 43, have been created and there has been 29
continuous months of job growth. The
referendum should be whether to continue the present growth and provide
assistance to improve the recovery by ridding Congress of McConnell, Boehner,
Cantor, and the rest of the TEA party group that has created a barrier to job
growth and can only enact legislation regarding abortion. The referendum should also be whether it is
desirable to continue tax policies that depress the middle class while granting
even more government largess to the top 10%.
Finally, the referendum should be whether or not America is for sale to
a few billionaires or whether the country should heed the voices of all
citizens.
