In his speech at the
Republican National Convention, Paul Ryan, when accepting the nomination for
the office of vice-president, accused President Obama of not acting to stop the
closing of a General Motors plant in Janesville, WI, Ryan’s home town. Ryan neglected to point out that the plant
actually began to shut down before President Obama was inaugurated. He seemed to overlook the fact that one
cannot take presidential actions until after one is sworn into office. However, this does raise another, more
important question. That question is
just what did Representative Ryan do to prevent the plant from closing. After
all, Ryan was the Congressional Representative from that district. Had he been serving the interests of his
constituency, shouldn’t he have made an effort to save jobs in his own
district? So, Paul Ryan, what did you
do to prevent the plant from closing.
It is obvious from the reality that the plant actually closed and is
still empty and idle, whatever Ryan did was not very effective. It is also obvious that Ryan, in his role as
representative, has not been able to do anything to help his neighbors,
classmates, and friends who worked at that plant find employment. At last look, the President just signs into
laws that have first been voted on and passed by the House of Representatives
and the Senate. Congressman Ryan , what
legislation did you craft to prevent the plant from closing. By the way, legislation re-defining rape did
not forestall the shutdown in case you didn’t notice.
