Republican talking
heads are seemingly upset with Mitt Romney’s position in the various
polls. They are asking why he isn’t
winning. One pundit went so dar as to
say that considering the present economic situation, if Romney fails to defeat
Obama the Republican Party should shut their doors. What no one is saying, however, is there are obvious reasons
Romney is in trouble. To start with, he
claims to be a Republican at a time when Republicans in both federal and state
government have done nothing, REPEAT, NOTHING to affect economic
improvement. Federal and state
Republican legislators have alienated minorities, Latinos, women, and virtually
every other voting block with the exception of rich, white men. Perhaps someone needs to explain that there
are not enough rich, white men able to vote and win elections. While rich, white men can contribute
millions, if not billions to political campaigns, between the Koch brothers,
Sheldon Adelson, and Foster Fries, Romney can only count on four votes. Dollars do not elect presidents and do not
respond to opinion polls. Romney is not
winning because not enough American voters (as opposed to campaign contributors)
feel he is of presidential material.
Romney has yet to hold a position on any issue longer than a month. In addition to his flipping and flopping,
his primary campaign was plagued with misstatements and untruths which are
again coming to the surface once the Obama campaign has had the opportunity to
put forth correct information. Finally,
there is the Tea Party, a group of obstructionists who have offered no
solutions to economic problems other than cutting spending. Unfortunately, the spending cuts they offer
will adversely affect far more voters than will benefit from those cuts so one
can look to the Tea Party Congressional delegation for turning away possible
Romney voters. When all is said,
however, Romney is not winning because every he says and does looks like a
return to the Bush years and it was the Bush years that brought down the
economy and caused all of the problems Romney claims to be able to fix. Unfortunately all of his fixes scream more
of the same and a return to the path that brought down the economy to begin with
(except for the top 10% of Americans who have prospered from the economic
disaster called the Bush Administration.)
