Mitt Romney said
this about Obama supporters to fellow millionaires at a closed-door fundraiser:
"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the President no
matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are
dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the
government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are
entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an
entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for
this president no matter what...These are people who pay no income tax ...
"My job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they
should take personal responsibility and care for their lives." Well, Mitt,
this statement is as good a reason as any other to explain why you will never
be President of the United States.
First, I am part of that 47% who, at one time was a Republican but over
time realized that Republican economic policies will never benefit the middle
class. Until such time as you
understand that middle class income is not between $100,000 and $250,000 you
will never be President. Second, I made
my first contributions to Social Security in 1952 and paid into that program
every year since. Beginning in 1975, I
started a “small business” and from then until closing that business in 2008,
paid both halves of the FICA tax.
Today, I live mainly on “government entitlement payments” for which I
paid, earned, and deserve just as much as you deserve to have your income taxed
as earned income rather than salary or tips.
Third, I also paid into Medicare every year since the program began and
find it reprehensible that you voice resentment that I feel entitled to medical
care after doing so. Your hypocrisy
voiced over the multi-year course of your campaign for President disqualifies
you from ever holding that office in my mind.
Finally, you allude to erroneous data that no one is deserving of any
government assistance while annually pocketing incredible amounts of money
because of government assistance that gives you tax advantages not available to
the majority of tax payers over which you wish to preside. While Republican pundits may feel that the
Obama economic policies may provide you with an advantage in this campaign you
have yet to provide a single policy or program that is supported by any
economic evidence those policies will improve the economy for anyone other than
your fellow millionaires or billionaires.
The economic policies of low taxes and less regulations which have been
in place since 1979 have resulted in a shrinking middle class and it will be a
miracle if you come out of the election with as much as 47% of the popular
vote. You are not winning because you
and your policies are losers.
