In the world of
Romney and Ryan there are no longer any facts.
In their world, what they say is what you are supposed to believe even
if common sense and actual data says otherwise. The only facts they ever cite to back up many of their claims are
those of bloggers who have no basis for authority or credentials to establish
their expertise. One recent comment by
Ryan was that he claimed that Obama failed to enact legislation to create jobs. It appears that even though Ryan is a member
of Congress he is unaware that the President does not enact legislation. He must also be unaware that Republicans in
the Senate had vetoed the omnibus jobs bill the President proposed as well as
the individual parts of that bill when proposed separately. The Presidents job bills never reached the
floor of the Senate for a vote even though the filibuster/procedural vote had a
54 vote majority. Ryan also neglected
to mention that Speaker Boehner, the Republican leader in the House of
Representatives, of which Ryan is a member, would not allow the President’s jobs
bills to be voted on in that chamber.
As a civics lesson for Representative Ryan, the President can only
“enact” legislation once that legislation has been voted on by both Houses of Congress
and any differences reconciled and also voted on. The same situation occurred when President Obama proposed
legislation to create jobs for returning veterans from the Afghanistan and Iraq
wars. Again, Republicans in the Senate,
the political party of Romney and Ryan, who claim to be job creators,
filibustered and blocked cloture votes for this legislation while Boehner again
refused to bring the legislation for veterans’ jobs to the floor of the House
of Representatives for a vote. Finally,
there are the facts about the Romney/Ryan budget proposals. They claim they will be able to cut taxes by
20% across the board, eliminate taxes on capital gains and dividends, and
eliminate the inheritance tax and still remain revenue neutral. Again, all economic experts contest their
claims saying that these tax policies would add $4.8 trillion dollars to the
deficit over a 10 year period, and
neither Romney or Ryan have presented any actual facts to counter the expert
opinions. It must be nice to live in
Romney/Ryan World. It appears that this
is a world where middle class begins at $250,000 per year and goes up to $25
million a year before one actually can be considered to be wealthy. Where this world exists (other than in the
mind of Romney/Ryan is as good a guess as any.
