Mitt Romney claims he can fix the economy and create
jobs. That is exactly the same thing
George W. Bush claimed during his campaign for President and during his
re-election campaign for a second term.
Just how well did that turn out one might ask. The last Republican administration created more debt than any
other administration in history. In
fact, the last republican administration created more debt than the total of
all previous administrations. When it
comes to jobs, the last Republican administration had the worst job creating
record of any modern administration and was surpassed only by Hoover and the
Great Depression. The stock market lost
almost 50% of value by the end of the last Republican administration. Finally, the last Republican administration
failed to end the two longest wars in the history of the country. Here comes Mitt Romney, another MBA touting
his business experience, claiming the recovery is not fast enough. While he says that there are 23 million
people looking for jobs, he only claims to be able to create 12 million new
jobs. Just like his math regarding tax
cuts fails to add up, somehow creating 12 million new jobs does not quite come
up to the 23 million without jobs. Are
the 11 million who will remain without jobs part of Romney’s 47% who he will
not be able to help? Romney claims he
will do better than Obama, but has yet to provide any specifics that would show
how he might make things better. He
says he will lower tax rates by 20% across the board, eliminate taxes on
capital gains, dividends, gifts, and inheritance but fails to show how those
policies which most claim would add $4.8 trillion to the deficits would be
“revenue neutral”. Speaking of "revenue neutral" Romney says nothing about how he will close the gap between today's revenue which is 15.4% od GDP and the revenue needed to spend 20% of GDP the Republicans claim to have targeted. Romney, in the course
of his quest for the Presidency has claimed to be a moderate and “severely
conservative. He has promised to both
repeal Obamacare and to fix Obamacare.
In his many speeches and debates, he would reverse Roe v Wade and allow
abortions to save the lives of mothers or in the event of rape and incest. It is quite possible that over time, Romney
has held every side on every issue.
There is one fact that will remain true, Romney will be a good president
for those in the top 1% of income and wealth.
While his tax cuts would save someone in the lowest tax bracket $20.00
per $1000 of AGI, those at the top would see their taxes lowered by $79.20 per
$1000 of AGI. In other words on each
$1000 of AGI, the wealthy save $79.20 and the poor save $20.00. Somehow, it seems that Romney would give
bigger tax cuts to those least in need of tax savings while basically ignoring
those at the bottom. Romney will be
bad for America and voters need to realize that their interests will not be
served by electing Republicans.
