Words do not create
jobs. Words do not help the middle
class dig out of the economic ruins brought on by supply-side economics. Words do not find jobs for returning
veterans. Words do not help the wives
and children who lost husbands in Iraq and Afghanistan pay their bills or send
their children to college. If you
listen to Romney or Ryan your will hear a lot of words, but you will see no
policies that would turn those words into actual actions. If yo are one of the few fortunate Americans
who enjoy AGIs in excess of $100,000 per year it is certain that the words of
Romney and Ryan will sound very good to you.
On the other hand, if you are part of the 90% of Americans whose AGI is
less than $100,000 per year and you vote to elect Romney/Ryan President and
Vice-president, you can count on your income and wealth continuing its
decline. Since 1979, Americans with an
AGI of less than $100,000 have failed to keep pace with inflation as low as
inflation has been over the past 33 years.
Salaries and wages for 90% of Americans have been stagnant (for those
who did not see their jobs shipped off shore) and their primary source of
wealth, the equity in their home, has fallen as well. The reason for this is supply-side economics did not work. Cutting taxes for millionaires and
billionaires did not create the promised jobs nor did it “trickle down” to help
those not so wealthy. The only thing
that “trickled” was the federal debt and actually gushed upwards. Federal Tax revenues have fallen from 19.5%
of GDP to 15.4% of GDP. Add to that
loss of tax revenue the loss of taxes because of the recession and you have
deficits going through the roof.
Cutting taxes will only make the deficit worse not better. Given a chance, ask Romney/Ryan or one of
their surrogates how they plan to offset the loss of revenue from a 20% cut in
income tax rates. Ask Romney/Ryan or a
surrogate how they will make up the loss of revenue when they eliminate tax on
estates over $5,000,000. Ask them where
they will make up the revenues lost by eliminating income tax on dividends and
capital gains. Oh, finally, ask they
where the money will come from when they increase the already obscene defense
expenditures. So far, Romney, Ryan. Or
their surrogates have yet to provide answers to those questions other than to
lie and deny they ever made those proposals.
If your AGI will ne less than $100,000, ask they how you personally
would be better of under Romney/Ryan rather than Obama. So far, the only thing Republicans have offered is words. Where is their job-creating legislation? Where has their action been for the past three and a half years? All you will ever get from a Republican Administration is words.
