Better Policies Work Better Than Better Explainations!

According to Bob Woodson, founding head of the Center for Neighborhood Enterprise — and a prominent black Republican, “If you believe in conservative principles, as I do, then you must explain to people why those principles will bring a better outcome than the existing liberal programs.”  The problem with this thinking is that the economic history of the past thirty years has demonstrated that the economic policies of Reagan and the right have not benefited anyone other than the very wealthy.  While these policies may have been “color blind” in the sense that the color of the wealthy did not matter, the reality is that no one regardless of color who was in the lower half of the economic ladder has benefited from supply side/trickle down economics and sadly there are more minorities at the bottom of the ladder than at the top so far fewer minorities would agree that conservatives can produce a better outcome.  Combine that with budgets like the Ryan plan and it is obvious why most would not support a Romney/Ryan ticket nor would most support Republicans for Congressional seats.  The only way the Republicans retained control of the House of Representatives is because of gerrymandering.  The only way they will continue to be a party of national importance is because they will hold state legislatures who will continue to draw up gerrymandered congressional districts or, even worse, change the rules where the Electoral College is concerned.  The answer is not in better explanations but better policies that result in the bottom half of the economic ladder actually experiencing the benefits of “better” economic policies.
