MADD

This is directed to those active in the Mothers Against Drunk Driving organization.  You have been effective in lobbying for legislature to help reduce deaths caused by drunk driving.  While these deaths have not been completely eliminated efforts by this organization have been beneficial in reducing these tragedies.  I am sure the parents of the children killed at the Sandy Hook shooting as well as parents who lost their children in other acts of gun violence will affirm that the loss of a child from gun violence is no less tragic than a loss as a result of a drunk driver.  A child killed by gun fire is just as dead as a child killed by a drunk driver.  To this end, this is a plea for this organization to focus not just on eliminating drunk driving but to also eliminate gun violence as well.  The mechanisms needed to influence legislation that would better control gun distribution and gun possession are already in place and proven to have been effective.  This organization, MADD, should be encouraged to look beyond deaths caused by misuse of motor vehicles and also look at deaths caused by misuse of firearms.
