This is the voice of a former Eisenhower Republican who presently is witnessing the destruction of the middle class because of today's Republican politics and policies. Today, ideology trumps reality and practicality. The time has come for humans to take back the castles from the corporations. Comments are welcome, by the way.

No Room At The Top
We have an economy for the top 10%. The DOW hit record highs today but how many of those whose incomes are at or below average will benefit from this. While there might be some who have seen a defined retirement plan converted to a 401K feel a little better, most of those people are far worse off than before their plans were converted to enrich the CEOs, all of who still have defined benefit retirements. How many of those in the majority of Americans will actually benefit as a result of record high corporate profits? Wages for workers actually have fallen in spite of these record profits. How many of those in the majority receive the tax favors because their income is taxed as "carried interest" rather than wage or commission income. How many average citizens get to offset heir inheritances by donating to art museums or funding college endowments with deferred gifts allowing them to write off current income? How many average citizens get the benefit of parking foreign income offshore to avoid or defer paying taxes on that income? We are still in a recession and suffering from high unemployment because for the first time in the economic history of teh country the Republicans in Congress fail to increase government spending to offset the drop in private sector spending. We are still in recession because all of those in Congress who campaigned and ran for office promising to create jobs have failed to craft a single piece of job creating legislation. This will remain an economy for the top 10% because none of those people will find themselves out of work or have to take unpaid furloughs because of sequestration. Finally, this is an economy of the top 10% because we have had and continue to have the least productive House of Representatives in the history of the country and this will continue to be an economy for the top 10% because the other 90% are either too stupid or too lazy to get rid of those responsible for the lack of their economic growth for the past 36 years.
