The Romney

The Romney is a move made by a hockey or soccer goalie to convince the opposing player to make an attempt to score that can be easily blocked.  To make the Romney, the goalie moves slightly to his left giving the illusion that he is going to move all the way to his left, but just as soon as it looks like the player will attempt to score in the far right corner of the net, the goalie has already moved back to his right and is in position to intercept the shot and prevent the goal.  Today, politicians in the Republican party are trying to implement the Romney by claiming to support same sex marriage, immigration, women’s choice and other left-leaning policies.  They do this having seen how opposing anything that moderately resembles a liberal position has cost them far too many election victories.  The problem is whether or not their leftward moves are for real or just feints.  The reality is that if they succeed in actually getting elected based upon their left-leaning proclamations, like the namesake of this move, Mitt Romney, after being elected Governor of Massachusetts based upon his claim to be a moderate, governed from as far right as he could.  Most voters suspected that if elected President, he would make the same move over again.  This explains the margin of his loss in Massachusetts for the Presidential election.  People in Massachusetts knew about the “Romney” and failed to be drawn out of position.  Now Republican wannabes for 2016 are all practicing their “Romney” moves any time they can get an open microphone. Now it appears to be Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio time to perfect this move. Can you believe them?  Is there a single bit of historical evidence to support that belief?  Remember, the last election was all about jobs.  Have you seen a single jobs bill authored by a Republican?  There’s your answer.
