Right to Defend?

While many Republicans continue to insist President Donald Trump still has a chance at winning the 2020 election despite ample evidence to the contrary. Kellyanne Conway, the former White House counselor insisted that Trump has the right to continue challenging the election results.  “The president wants to exhaust all of his legal avenues, as he has made clear many times,” Conway said. “Of course, that is his right.”  But, is it not appropriate for various courts to determine Trump and his various puppets are guilty of clogging the courts with frivolous lawsuits?  A frivolous lawsuit is a lawsuit that has no legal merit. To put it simply, a frivolous lawsuit has no basis in law or fact.  A frivolous lawsuit has no legitimate legal or factual support. Ridiculous, absurd, ludicrous, and nonsensical—these are all words that can be used to describe a frivolous lawsuit. All of these descriptors would be apt descriptions of the many lawsuits brought in behalf of overturning the 2020 election results to favor the loser, Donald Trump. Constant claims of voter fraud remain unproven and universally denied by individuals regardless of political party responsible for overseeing and running elections in one state or another.  Governors in swing states have certified results contrary to pleading by Trump or Trump allies.  Not a single Trump lawyer has been able to cite credible evidence to support the false argument of fraud or election mismanagement. While Trump has a right to defend how does this right extend to the right to continue to bring frivolous lawsuits to the courts.  At some point judges need to tell him to stop and these judges need to begin to censure and penalize lawyers who continue to pursue cases of voter fraud without supporting evidence.  For over four years the country has been plagued with lies and misinformation from Donald Trump that did not stop with the November election.  The time has come for Trump’s lies to hit him in his pocketbook for failing to accept the reality of his loss.  Any lawyer bring a frivolous lawsuit in his behalf needs to be brought before the bar authority of the state in question, censured, and fined.  This legal nonsense needs to end.
