Too Little, Too Late

Senator Mitch McConnell said on Monday that the “loony lies and conspiracy theories” embraced by Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene amounted to a “cancer” on the Republican Party, issuing what in effect was a scathing rebuke to the freshman House Republican from Georgia.  In a statement reported by The Hill, Mr. McConnell of Kentucky, the minority leader, never named Ms. Greene, but he referred to several of the outlandish and false conspiracy theories she has espoused and warned that such statements were damaging the party. “Loony lies and conspiracy theories are cancer for the Republican Party and our country,” Mr. McConnell said. “Somebody who’s suggested that perhaps no airplane hit the Pentagon on 9/11, that horrifying school shootings were pre-staged, and that the Clintons crashed JFK Jr.’s airplane is not living in reality. This has nothing to do with the challenges facing American families or the robust debates on substance that can strengthen our party.”  Coming from Mitch this is a perfecgt example of too little, too late.  What about the loony claims of election fraud voiced repeatedly by Donald Trump?  How about similar claims echoed by Senators Cruz and Hawley?  And, then there are the 107 Republicans in the House of Representatives claiming Trump won the 202 election.  This “come-to-Jesus” moment by Senator McConnell is topped only by his reversal of logic between his refusal to even bring the Obama’s Supreme Court nomination to a confirmation vote while jamming through the nominations of Trump’s three questionably qualified nominees.  McConnell is once again proving Republicans can only obstruct and totally lack the ability to govern.
