Voter Fraud?

The news has been filled with talk about voter fraud ever since Donald Trump announced running for re-election.  Virtually every one of Trump’s campaign appearances contained his assertions that the upcoming election would be fraudulent.  Perhaps he realized he was going to fail to receive a majority of votes, or perhaps during the campaign period he was just hedging his bet in case he failed to get a majority of votes, or perhaps he was very aware that he was unable to give voters sufficient reason to grant hi a second term.  Of course one the final results were in and even after the inauguration of Joe Biden, Trump’s successor, the claim of voter fraud still persist.  The real issue should not be investigating whether or not there were actual, provable instances of fraudulent voting.  In every election there has always been the odd occurrence of a few voing irregularities.  But at no time has there ever been a case where millions of votes have been found to be fraudulent and at no time has a state voting official been asked to “to find 11,780 votes”.  This is not to say there are not problems in America’s voting systems.  But in the case of fraud the problem is not voter fraud but politician fraud.  For too many years, going back to the presidential campaign of Ronald Reagan the Republican Party has resorted to political fraud in election campaigns.  Starting with making unproven and false economic promises in order to justify reductions in tax obligations Republicans have realized their political policies do not appeal to a majority of Americans.  When they realized the extent of opposition from labor unions Republicans began to use their power in office to minimize the growth of labor unions.  When their tax policies are not attractive to a majority of voters they resort to lies and misinformation.  And, when Republican in elected office realize they are unable to enact policy that has wide spread appeal they resort to obstruction and attempting to expedite the failure on the part of Democratic administrations when they have won elections.  The political fraud on the part of Republicans is full force today when the news finds dozens of Republican controlled state legislatures enacting laws intended to make it harder to vote.  This legal voter suppression had its start with the various voter ID laws and when those laws failed to guarantee Republican election victory state legislators are again actively attempting to find legal ways to make it harder to vote.  The problem in America is not voter fraud but politician fraud enacting legislation based upon lies and misinformation.  The best solution is eliminating the filibuster and enacting new election reform the will give teeth to campaign finance and make voting for Senators, Representatives, and the President uniform from one state to another as well as removing any and all barriers to individual voting.
