Death Panels

Once again, those in opposition to any program of healthcare has raised the cry of Death Panels.  First of all, this term is an outright lie.  Second, in every state in the union, insurance commissions (state death panels?) determine various requirements for minimum coverages for all healthcare insurance in that respective state.  Additionally, each insurance company has a committee that determines what is or is not covered over and above the state mandated minimum coverage.  However, beyond these points of fact, any rulings issued by so-called “death panels” do not prevent an individual from seeking any treatment for anything that ails that individual.  These rulings only apply to what procedures or treatments insurance will pay for.  Any individual may, by paying out of pocket, obtain any treatment for any disease.  With any insurance there are limits of coverage and exclusions.  As long as these limits and exclusions are made know up front, an individual is free to make decisions on what that individual is willing to pay for or not pay for.  One final thought...if politicians are going to tell outright lies about a subject such as “death panels” what else do they lie about and who stands to benefit from their lies?  The answers to those two questions will reveal a great deal of truth one can use to make important decisions that affect their lives.
