The Romney We Know

The Romney We Know On Romney: The following are what other Republican candidates for the Presidential nomination have said about Mitt Romney, the presumed nominee. Perhaps we need to listen to those who probably know best of his abilities to succeed as President of The United States. Rick Perry, the governor of Texas, also hammered Mr. Romney, saying that under Mr. Romney, Bain Capital “looted” a company in Gaffney, S.C., and got “rich off failures and sticking it to someone else.” Newt Gingrich, after a campaign stop in Manchester, demanded that Mr. Romney explain in more detail the impact that Mr. Romney’s investment firm, Bain Capital, had on jobs. He said that Mr. Romney promotes his credentials as a businessman and should expound upon the buying and selling of companies. “It’s a legitimate question about exactly what happened: Where did the money go? Who got the money? What happened to the people involved?” Mr. Gingrich told reporters. “He’s the one who went around and said he has 20 years experience — fine. Now let’s talk about the 20 years experience. ”Earlier on NBC’s “Today” show, Mr. Gingrich said Bain Capital “apparently looted the companies, left people unemployed and walked off with millions of dollars.” "We're not going to beat Barack Obama with some guy who has Swiss bank accounts, Cayman Island accounts, owns shares of Goldman Sachs while it forecloses on Florida and is himself a stockholder in Freddie Mae and Freddie Mac while he tries to think the rest of us are too stupid to put the dots together to understand what this is all about." "Well, you seem shocked by it! This is a man whose staff created the PAC, his millionaire friends fund the PAC, he pretends he has nothing to do with the PAC - it's baloney. He's not telling the American people the truth..." "I just think he ought to be honest with the American people and try to win as the real Mitt Romney, not try to invent a poll-driven, consultant-guided version that goes around with talking points, and I think he ought to be candid. I don't think he's being candid and that will be a major issue. From here on out from the rest of this campaign, the country has to decide: Do you really want a Massachusetts moderate who won't level with you to run against Barack Obama who, frankly, will just tear him apart? He will not survive against the Obama machine." Jon M. Huntsman Jr. seized on a comment by Mr. Romney earlier Monday that he liked “to fire people,” saying that the quip reveals a difference between Mr. Romney and himself. “It seems that Governor Romney believes in putting politics first; Governor Romney enjoys firing people — I enjoy creating jobs,” Mr. Huntsman said. “It may be that he’s slightly out of touch with the economic reality playing out in America right now, and that’s a dangerous place to be.” Some of the things Rick Santorum said about Mitt Romney during the GOP presidential race: Focusing on the subject of health care, GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum said his opponent and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney was “worst Republican in the country” to challenge President Barack Obama on the individual mandate to purchase health insurance. "Pick any other Republican in the country. (Romney) is the worst Republican in the country to put up against Barack Obama." "Conservatives will not trust (Romney), will not rally around him." “If [Romney's health care] policy is bad, the policy is bad. And a bad policy is one thing. But lying to the American people is something else.” “You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who’s just going to be a little different than the person in there. If they’re going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk of what may be the Etch A Sketch candidate for the future.” "It truly frightens me to think what'll happen if Mitt Romney is the nominee.” He is "a Massachusetts moderate” and "Republicans and conservatives will be crippled by a nominee who presents zero contrast with Barack Obama on the major issues of this election."
