Is it stupidity or incompetence that has resulted in the
latest Romney gaffs? One day this past
week, Romney stood in front of a manufacturing concern explaining how he, not
President Obama, would be “tough on China” but the problem was the Obama
administration had already come down on China trade violations involving this
very same manufacturing concern a year or so ago. Well, one might shrug shoulders and say mistakes happen, but a
day or so either side of this gaffe, Romney was standing in front of another
manufacturer bad-mouthing the Obama stimulus policy not knowing that this very
same manufacturer had benefited to the tune of over $600,000.00 from the very
program Romney was criticizing. Then,
the very same week proved it must be true that bad things happen in threes as
when Romney was in Defiance, Ohio, he claimed that the Jeep manufacturer was
shutting down operations in Ohio and moving to China. Unfortunately, he got his information from an unauthorized,
right-wing blog that was totally incorrect.
Jeep has announced plans to expand and up-date the Defiance plant and
the announcement Romney mentioned actually stated Jeep was planning to expand
and re-start operations in China. Of
course, Romney did not mention that Sensata, a company owned by Bain Capital,
the company he founded and still owns 51% has already begun to ship machinery
from Freeport, IL to China and will send 170 jobs to China before the end of
the year. One has to wonder how Romney
could be so misinformed. Is it
stupidity on either his part or on the part of his hired hands? His campaign has been plagued by lies and
misinformation since before his nomination was secured. How can someone so lacking in competence
expect to be capable of being the President of the United States?
