There’s crazy, there’s gun crazy, and there’s fucking gun crazy. The airwaves are filled with the fucking crazy gun nuts making claims that have absolutely no basis in fact. The screams of Second Amendment rights drown out the reality of the fact that there is nothing in the Second Amendment that grants rights for military weapons to be in the hands of civilians. In fact, in the only Supreme Court case involving the Second Amendment in the history of the country, the only right, in the opinion of the court, was the right to possess a hand gun in one’s home for protection. In the 2008 opinion that struck down Washington D.C.'s handgun ban, Justice Antonin Scalia suggested the Second Amendment shouldn't stop the U.S. from barring certain weapons. Scalia, a strict interpreter of the Constitution, said there's an "important limitation" on the right to bear arms. "We think that limitation is fairly supported by the historical tradition of prohibiting the carrying of 'dangerous and unusual weapons'," Scalia wrote. Scalia reiterated that sentiment in July of this year when he told Fox News Sunday that the Second Amendment leaves room for federal gun control legislation. Congress arguably screwed up when it let a ban on many semiautomatic weapons expire back in 2004 but has the ability to reinstate that ban as well as other prohibitions when it comes to guns. Unfortunately, the fucking crazies do not care about facts of truth but only want to try to inflame other crazies with misstatements, lies, and other bullshit. Listening to the fucking crazies, one might think there is a right to possess a 50 caliber-armed cobra helicopter to protect one’s house from “the bad guys” or to go duck hunting and pursue ducks in flight.
