The Problem With Conservative Politics

Conservative political thought has one big problem.  The main reason for this problem is conservatism, as a political philosophy is opposed to change.  This presents a serious problem in governing because governing is totally about change.  When dealing with the needs of citizens, successful, good government has to focus on making things better.  Solving and fixing problems are the rule not the exception.  This requires a change from the ways are that require improvement so how can there be any government if the focus is not on difference from the ways things are to the ways things need to be made to work better?  Going back to the way things were makes nothing better.  Going back to the way things were benefits few and solves few problems yet that is the objective of conservative politics.  Change is inevitable but the real issue is if the change will be for the better or will change make things worse.  America just survived four years of bad government where every change proposed by President Trump made things worse.  In addition, failure to change to deal with the crisis of Covid-19 cost aq lot of lives and definitely made things worse.  But, that failure is a characteristic of conservatism.  Being caught unaware of a pandemic threat is but one example of the failure to acknowledge the fact that things change and the thinking that the virus will go away on its own is how government can make things worse.  It is questionable if Americans will ever recognize the dangers of a conservative government until it is much too late for a positive outcome from any crisis faced by a conservative government.  As long as Americans fail to recognize these dangers of conservatism America will remain threatened by the political views of people like Donald Trump.
